Keeping with tradition, I left something behind at my most recently uprooted home. It was a small token. A metaphorical scratch in the wood. Just something to say that I existed, and perhaps something of an intrigue and inspiration for the next student lucky enough to inhabit the room with the best view in Arroyo Vista 1010.
It was an email my mother had sent me earlier in the year. I don't know how long it will stay there. Four pieces of scotch tape is about as permanent as a fifth grader's first boyfriend. But someday, somehow, I will return and see for myself. Be it through the front or back door.
PLa. make a mental note of where you are today for today is the making of history.
Obama, the lst black elected president in the country that has its beginning deep rooted in african slavery. It is going to be a landslide victory.
By the same token, I urge you to seriously reconsider and make preparation for applying law school - you don't have to like the schooling. There is really nothing to like about it. It's akin to learning the rules prior to playing the game of monopoly. The fun is in the application of the rules to win. The studying is a relative small price to pay for a lifetime of gaming.
If you are serious about making a difference in the environment of the future. A background knowledge the ins and outs of the legislation process in shaping, enforcing, and prevention is vital. In order to succeed in whatever you do, you must have foresight, don't get borde down by what's in front of you, ie: I don't think I like it, that's emotion. You must have the discipline to build a solid foundation to play in the real world. There is a difference between wanting and doing. You need to decide that. You may continue to want to make a difference until the last breath of your life; this is procrastination. To make a difference required action, in all of the time, the scarfice is far from glamorous. It is boring and mundane grudge work. Many came to Dr. WAre and seeked the secret of his success. When they learned that he had his beginning in years and years of mundane research in the lab with dogs and monkies, they turned away in sadness. They wanted the money. fame and glory that came with his success, but they were not willing to do what it took.
Get away from the mentality that it has to feel right in order to be right - all you need to do to look to:
Obama - a lawyer specialized in constitution law - materials as dry as it can be, but the expertise is abolutely necessary in government.
I know you law school is a good fit for you- you have that sensibility and temperament. I would be extremely uneasy and skeptical if you decides on med school. I wouldn't think you would make a good clinican even if you make it thru the training which I harbor serious doubt. On the other hand, I don't see your future as a practicing attorney. But a JD would give you the basis you need to make the difference that you so desire to accomplish. If you have high hopes, you must make the sacrifice - don't let passion fools you, you do what is right in a logical, cold and calculated fashion, with your head, not your heart.

The funny thing is that I had forgotten about it. I had originally printed it the day it was received and taped it on my wall, right above my pillow. It was certainly moving words to capture the inspiration that was literally dripping through the air at that time, but a couple weeks passed and the white paper began to blend in perfectly with the room's white walls. A month later and it was just an extension of the blurry scenery, erased from my consciousness.
One crisis later and three weeks into the summer I find myself looking back at that email. The words are the same, but still I reread them over and over and each hastily written line is afresh with new meaning. History, it seems, has an uncanny knack for repeating itself.
I think it's time to print another.
